The photographs throughout this site are from the G. Eric and Edith Matson Photograph Collection (formerly the American Colony Photo Department), housed in the Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Division.
These images were taken during the 1936 Matson trip down the Nile, documenting Khartoum, Omdurman, and southern Sudan. They hold deep personal significance as a visual connection to ancestral lands along the Nile and the desert.
